This year's report looks at the effects of fluctuations in the global economy and international wealth flows on luxury housing markets in 2013, and offers fresh insights into buying behavior, preferences, and demographic make-up of high-net-worth individuals purchasing luxury residences.

In this report, 10 top luxury real estate markets: French Riviera, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, San Francisco, Sydney, and Toronto, were ranked in the second annual "Christie's International Real Estate Index", which measures key metrics including record market sales price, prices per square foot, and percentage of non-local and international buyers.

The $744 900 000 total of Tuesday, 13^th of May 2014, evening's sale represents the highest total for a single auction in art market history. Bidders from 35 countries competed for an exceptional offering of masterworks by some of the century's most influential artists: Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Barnett Newman... 

With a wide range of examples from the collections of Edwin A. and Lindy Bergman, the estate of Anita Reiner, Philipp Schrager, and institutions such as E.ON Art Collection in Düsseldorf and the Art Institute of Chicago, collectors competed enthusiastically for works with the best quality and significant provenance. The two evening sales established 26 new auction records.
