Must-Visit Villages in the Nice Hinterland

Saint-Paul-de-Vence

Once favored by numerous renowned artists, Saint-Paul-de-Vence has not lost any of its prestige today. Its fame is owed to its numerous assets. Its location, firstly: situated on a rocky outcrop, the village offers a breathtaking panorama of the azure blue sea and the flowered hills descending below. Its cultural heritage, secondly: in the heart of the old town, within the ramparts built by François I, visitors are charmed by the period stone buildings, the narrow cobbled streets, the elegant fountains, and the numerous artist galleries.

Saint-Martin-Vésubie

At the gates of the Mercantour National Park, Saint-Martin-Vésubie enjoys a magnificent natural setting. Around the village located at 975 meters altitude, hikers can enjoy 3600 hectares of forest and discover the richness of the regional flora, as well as a multitude of rivers and streams. But the village is not only renowned for the beauty of its lush nature. Nicknamed the "Niçois Switzerland" because of the chalets it houses, the municipality invites you to discover the authentic way of life of the Nice High Country.

Eze-village

Eze is located 12 kilometers from Nice, not far from Monaco and Menton. While part of the municipality is on the seaside, the historic village is situated at approximately 450 meters altitude. An essential destination on the French Riviera, it charms visitors with its narrow flower-filled streets steeped in history, shaded squares, and beautifully restored stone houses. Of course, Eze-Village also owes its success to the incredible panorama it offers of the sea and the azure coastline.

Tourettes-sur-Loup

Just like Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Tourettes-sur-Loup dominates the horizon from the rocky spur on which it is built. Surrounded by aloes and prickly pear cacti, this former medieval city is nicknamed "the city of violets", a flower cultivated in the village for over a century, with fields stretching down to the coastline. More discreet than Saint-Paul or Vence, Tourettes-sur-Loup is nonetheless just as marvelous: colorful narrow streets, stone facades, flower-lined stairs, vaults, fountains, and arcades provide a feast for the eyes.

La Colle-sur-Loup

La Colle-sur-Loup is often considered one of the most beautiful villages in the Nice hinterland. Amidst oaks, olive trees, lemon trees, and fragrant roses, the municipality boasts a delightful natural setting and hosts the Loup River, whose landscaped banks become veritable oases of freshness in summer. In the village, La Colle-sur-Loup boasts several perfectly preserved medieval and Renaissance monuments, as well as numerous small restaurants, antique shops, and art galleries.
